K of C Family of the Month for Fr. Bill Johnson #11665 for July 2025 goes to Tyler and Julie Kohl. Tyler and Julie are long time St. Francis de Sales parishioners, and active members of our parish and the community. They have been married 38 years with two children and two grandkids.
Tyler is retired after 32 years as a Columbus firefighter, the last 17 with the rank of Lieutenant! While a firefighter, Tyler made so many very close friendships, many of whom he remains close to to this day.
Tyler joined the Knights of Columbus Fr. Bill Johnson Council #11665 in 1998. He has held many roles throughout that time, starting with Lecturer and working his way through to be Grand Knight in the 2023-25 Fiscal Years. While Grand Knight, he led the council to back-to-back 4-star council awards, something that is really unheard of for even a single year!
Tyler advanced to 4th degree within the Knights in 1999 as part of Assembly 0830 and was recently elected to lead the Assembly as Faithful Navigator for 2025-2027! Tyler can often be seen dressed for color guard in support of requests from our priests and Bishop, as well as Veteran’s related events.
And starting in July 2025, Tyler was appointed as District Deputy for 5 local councils!
In addition to Leadership within the Knights of Columbus, Tyler also belongs to the Ancient Order of the Hibernians (An Irish Catholic organization) and the Emerald Society of Columbus, Ohio (Police Officers and Firefighters fellowship organization).
Tyler also participates in Faith Develop programs, including That Man is You and Into the Breach.
Julie retired after 27 years as a Registered Nurse at LMH. She is currently employed with Medical Mutual reviewing insurance claims.
Julie also served as a board member of the Carol Strawn Center (Aging Center Adult Day Care) for 8 years.
And she is a strong supporter of Tyler’s many activities with Catholic service organizations such as the Knights of Columbus and Ancient Order of the Hibernians.
